Coiled wire is becoming more and more used but due to various existing types (hot-rolled, cold-rolled, drawn and recoiled, plain or ribbed, etc), each one having its own characteristics, it is easy to find many unpredictable situations. This made the use of machines difficult for unskilled operators resulting in bad quality products: open stirrups, non co-planar shapes and unstable bending are only some examples.
Three years of hard work carried out by an interdisciplinary group made up of Schnell technicians, universities and independent research centres led to the development of a new and effective approach to bending problems. The result is “Sapiens”: a combination of mechanical, control and interface innovations, which make bending easier, compared with previous systems in a simple and stable way.
- Simple because any operator, even unskilled ones, can obtain high bending standards resulting in straight bars, well closed stirrups and co-planar shapes.
- Stable because the bending quality obtained is slightly affected by material variations and can be maintained.
Schnell has applied “Sapiens technology to a new range of stirrup benders which actually straighten better than the previous. “Sapiens” machines are further an example of technological innovation based on the observation of clients’ needs.
