SAPIENS
This issue of @Schnell focuses especially on SAPIENS, the new integrated straightening technology developed and patented by Schnell.
SAPIENS is the result of about 3 years of research by our technical staff in collaboration with Universities and independent research authorities.
SAPIENS is based on the desire to offer our customers an advanced system solving problems associated with straightening coiled wire; a solution that:
• doesn't “spoil” the material but maintains its characteristics;
• ensures excellent results even with low-quality wire;
• means these results can be easily achieved even by unskilled operators;
The result: straight bars, always properly closed stirrups and co-planar shapes - all with fast adjustment times and very low waste levels, with absolute easiness and impressive stability from both ends of the coils.
We tested SAPIENS with wire from all the main countries in the world and we have always achieved results even better than expectations.
This issue of @Schnell illustrates the outcome of long-term work that is finally available on the new range of Nextra 16, Coil 16 and Eura 16 machines.
PAGE 2
SAPIENS is Schnell’s major innovation in the coiled wire processing field.
It is not merely a simple, mechanical innovation but an integration of mechanical, control and operator interface innovations ensuring even better straightening than with previous systems

IT IS CALCULATED THAT
EVEN UNSKILLED OPERATORS ACHIEVE HIGH QUALITY STANDARDS (closed stirrups, straight bars and co-planar shapes) WITHOUT LOSS OF TIME (and scraps) FOR ADJUSTMENTS.
TECHNICAL DESCRIPTIONS
The innovations embraced by the integrated SAPIENS technology include:
- Asymmetrical feeding unit
The asymmetrical feeding unit with 5 wheels (patented) adapts to the nature of coils by acting "softly" on the wire and avoiding axial rotation phenomena.
Pressure on the wire is never high since the contact surface between the wheels and the wire is much larger than in any other feed unit and consequently wire ribbings are never crushed or damaged.
The asymmetrical configuration with 5 wheels, moreover, improves wire straightening and the stability of the straightening process.
- Straightening and adjustment unit (equalizers).
The 2 straightening units are designed and tested in order to:
- ensure that the new machines are virtually “unaffected” by oval formed wire and of poor-quality in general.
- improve the "grip on the wire" at the same time as preventing residual rotation trends that otherwise cause open stirrups and non co-planar shapes.
Every straightening unit, moreover, is fitted with an exclusive “equalizer” adjustment system for simple and intuitive fine adjustments (patented).
The straightening wheels in special steel can be inverted in just a few seconds: this means that the 2 wheels’ throats can be alternated to ensure impressive durability.
- Joy-sticks
The two joy-sticks are the most evident example of the simplification achieved in the SAPIENS system.
Straightening has never been so easy and intuitive:
- joy-stick up the wire is raised
- joy-stick down the wire is lowered
- joy-stick right the wire is shifted to the right
- joy-stick left the wire is shifted to the left
Correction is possible even during work stages and is stored by the PC; accidental operation of the joy-sticks is prevented by a safety system.
- New KS 104 graphic computer
The control panel houses the new KS 104 graphic computer with 12” colour screen.
Straightening parameters are stored on 3 different levels and stored data includes both, wire diameter and the type of wire. Variations in straightening parameters made during processing operations (using the joy-sticks) are saved but do not modify the data memorised at lower levels: in this way, unskilled operators can take advantage of the experience of more expert colleagues without the risk of compromising adjustments.
- Slogan
Straight bars, closed stirrups and co-planar shapes can be produced in a truly simple manner even with low-quality steel and unskilled operators. All this thanks to SAPIENS.
MACHINES
SAPIENS is available on the new range of 16 machines: X16 Coil16 Eura 16.
Nextra16: the stirrup bender with an exceptional quality/price ratio; offers all the advantages of Sapiens Technology and digital servo-motors
Coil 16: even faster and more complete than X16; can be equipped with the automatic diameter change unit to change the coil being processed in less than one minute.
Eura 16: stirrup and rebar bending machine with automatic diameter change. The most versatile machine available today on the market: also available as a "bridge" version, with a collecting bench and mobile carriage for rebar collection.

The brake consists of a flat surface onto which the material is placed, and a clamping bar which will come down and hold the material firmly during the bend. This clamping action may be manual, automatic or operated using a foot pedal. The front, gate-like, plate of the machine is hinged and may be lifted, forcing the material extended over a straight edge to bend to follow the plate.
The bends can be to any angle up to a practical limit of about 120 degrees , somewhat more in the case of a bar folder. If the area to be bent is narrow enough, a sharper bend (e.g., for a hem) can be made by inserting the bend under the clamping bar and lowering it.

FROM THE EXPERIENCE OF OPTIBAT AND EURA TO THE NEW FRONTIERS OF BARWISER:
The second part in a series of articles dedicated to "element processing"
The previous issue discussed the difference between “position” and “element” processing.
Briefly, "position processing" involves sets of identical bars while "element processing" usually concerns sets of different bars need to create a beam, pillar or other constructional structure.
An “element” is thus an “assembly kit” of bars (straight or shaped) used to make up a given armature. It is evident that the reality of building sites requires armatures involving identical and diversified bars. It is easy to understand that cutting and eventually bending identical bars is much simpler than cutt more... Bending machine |

SCHNELL: 40 years of experience and innovations
The first rebar cutting and bending machines were manufactured after WW II. They made it easier to process that vital element which stands at the core of any reinforced concrete structure, although it cannot be devised from the outside once the building is complete.
Schnell was established in 1962 as a manufacturer of reinforcement rebar processing equipment and was characterised from the very fist by its brave and unconventional approach.
Such features proved very useful when the company was confronted with the changes which took place in the European construction field in the 1970s and 198 more... Bending machine |

| Spirex SPIREX is an innovative machine proposed by Schnell, able to realize a continuous clamping of both beams and pillars of concrete.
SPIREX is a particular continuous stirrup, whose vertical arms are always vertical to the main reinforcement, while the horizontal arms diverge, determining the pitch (also variable) among the different stirrups.
The continuous stirrup SPIREX eliminates more... Bending machine |
